Lite-Brite, 2007, chain-link fence, water bottles, food-dye. Bonnaroo Music and Arts Festival, Manchester, TN.
Designed and executed as one of seven installations at Bonnaroo that summer. Led by artists John Bisbee and Wade Kavanaugh, groups of students designed project proposals and then spent ten days before and during the festival on the participatory installations, engaging concert-goers in interactive art-making.
The giant lite-brite was constructed of three-sided chain link structures filled with plastic bottles containing colored water and then back-lit with halogen bulbs. All bottles were collected on site and recycled afterward, making it also sustainable. Bonnaroo attendees were invited to rearrange the bottles into their own designs, just like in a traditional lite-brite.
